Killdeer

While visiting the under-construction arboretum the Town of Babylon is building, I was introduced  to a mamma Killdeer tending her four eggs.  There were two nesting birds under blueberry bushes, this one was less afraid of us and let me get close. Jennifer, the town arborist,  and I were actually picking blueberries from this bush. The other mamma bird wouldn't let us get close at all. She jumped  around with her wing flat on the ground as if she is hurt. I love the red around her eye.
Happy father's day to all the dads out there!

Happy Father's Day :)
Love that lower photo, and also hearing about how they protect the nest. I agree about the eye color.

Excellent image, Steve. I like the touch of color the blueberries give. Hope you have a great Father's Day.

steve, i have never seen one of these birds be so friendly. what a treat. i especially like the one that is more of the angle of being low to the ground and with the blue of the berries is a lovely addition. also i enjoyed the story.
