Fiddleheads

I've only recently learned of fiddleheads being a delicacy. In the past I just photographed their beauty and intricate design.
Searching the net, I've come across statements like,  Fiddlehead Greens are the premium wild forage vegetable of Spring. No other vegetable matches the exquisite form and delicious flavor of fresh Fiddleheads. Fiddleheads have antioxidant activity, are a source of Omega 3 and Omega 6, and are high in iron and fibre, is cited on Wikipeada to Agriculture Canada Study.
These beauties were next to our cabin in Vermont. In the past, I've posted ferns from the yard.
Maybe I'll harvest a few of my ferns and make a stir-fry.

Purple Trillium

I found this flower along the riverbank leading to the waterfall. After a google search, I came up with three common names, Stinking Benjamin, Purple Trillium and Wake Robin. The description says is has an unpleasant odor. I guess I didn't get close enough to attest to this...thankfully.
It is very pretty and unique looking.

The Woods at Wihakowi

Cel and I drove up to Northfield Vermont Thursday to gather our son and his belongings as another school year came to an end. Cel decided to do something different and booked an overnight stay in a cabin at The Woods at Wihakowi aka Camp Wihakowi. First off, I think Vermont is one of the prettiest states I've ever visited. Second, if big motel and hotel chains are not your thing, you need to check this place out for some R&R. You could hear this waterfall from our cabin, and there is nature all around you.
Jonathan and Lisa, the keepers of the camp are down-to-earth, friendly folks. Everything you need for a restful stay, short or long is right there.

Meadow Croft

This carriage house is on one of the major Long Island homesteads of the famous Roosevelt family. It is located in Sayville, one of my favorite towns on Long Island.
My aunt, uncle and two cousins lived in Sayville, and as a child, my family didn't live far. Sayville holds some nice memories. This is the same place the rocking chairs and spring foliage photo was made and it is also HDR.

Mother's Day

I made this photo yesterday. Jackie is a special girl, no... a blessed young lady. When she was younger she needed and received a bone marrow transplant. She's fine now. She's a courteous young lady who is very thankful to be well. She's always thinking of others.
But this post is for her mother, a single mom who had to struggle through the expenses and worries of having someone as special as Jackie and almost losing her.
Most mothers are special. There's nothing like a mother's love. Happy mother's day to all and especially to mine.

Come and rest.

This is a HDR photo I made today in Sayville NY. The light rain, and spring foliage added so much to the color.

A different sign of spring

I found this in the Islip High School parking lot when I went to watch my son's lacrosse game.

We lost.

Don't bother me.

Sasha, our cat, doesn't like the camera.  When I got on the floor to make a photo of her in her pillow she looked up. The only time I'm on the floor is when I exercise, and I usually move her and her pillow to another spot.  I guess she knew that wasn't happening, and neither was my photo.
