Autumn Montauk Daisy

Montauk Daisies spread like weeds. And mine all look very unruly. This one I moved last spring. It's the first time I've seen this magnificent autumn color. None of the rest of them looked this good.

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. I spent mine with my wife's family. Adam was home from school and I am thankful to have had my sons home for Thanksgiving. I'm also thankful for the leftovers!
This photo a few weeks old. You know how much I love autumn, but the colors this year have been cut short by Superstore Sandy. Not many of the trees have any foliage left.

Abstract Autumn Joy

I've always had a hard time with abstract photography. 

Not viewing it, but making it. 

Recently I've seen interesting abstract photographs using camera motion and thought I'd give it a try. 

Autumn on the Forge River

I was in awe when I saw this during my ride home yesterday. The Forge River, pictured here, is the most polluted river in Suffolk County. At one time duck farm activity was discovered to be the primary source of pollution. New studies suggest leaching from cesspools and the high ground water in the surrounding area have done in the river. 
We have really screwed-up so much of what God has made for us.

The end of a Wickapogue walk.

As I walked through the planted field at 

Wickapogue and Old Field, 

I came across some seed pods. 

They look like Milkweed only miniature.

and found a flower in denial of the season.

at Old Town and Wickapogue today.

Fall has been here and whisked away the colors.

The spent leaves and seed pods were drenched in the morning light.

Fall Ferns

Well, we had some sunshine yesterday after a cold and wet weekend. 

I spent a few minutes looking for color along the Peconic River and found some beautiful back-lit ferns.

Autumn is when leaves get to play the part of flowers.

Sunday, my foster brother and his new girlfriend came out to visit. We haven't seen each other in fourteen years. 

Way too long a time not to see family. 

It was a great visit.

Autumn on the Peconic River

 

Today's post was made Thursday, late in the day. It's a HDR photo made with the Canon 5dmkII and processed with Photomatix Pro and Photoshop. The river was almost still Thursday and the foliage along the bank was beautifully lit by the warm light of the late afternoon sun.

I'm still having a blast with autumn. For me Spring and fall are the two seasons that offer the most opportunity for me, photographically.

This was made on a walk though East Quogue. I love the colors and tones.

Weesuck Creek

There's a creek in East Quogue on the west end of Shinnecock called Weesuck Creek. If I were this creek, I'd change my name.

This is the first time I uses the G10 to make a HDR image. I steadied the camera on a dock piling and made my three exposures. I used Photomatix Pro and Photoshop to process the results.

On a short walk yesterday I came across autumn happening in full blast. Long Island is at the beginning of peak. I love autumn.

Fall Colors

I guess that the extremely hot and dry summer made some of the trees and bushes turn sooner this year. On our trip up to Vermont two weeks ago we noticed some leaves changing and down here on Long Island the same is happening.

I love the colors of fall. I found this bush yesterday, outside the H. Lee Dennison building in Hauppauge, NY. It was early in the morning and the sunlight was still warm.

Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009

I’m home again after a great time at parents weekend up at Norwich University. The leaves are starting to change and nights are getting colder in Vermont. Adam seems very happy and well adjusted, Norwich is agreeing with him.
Parents weekend included us seeing the school football team win and the rugby team lose. We met Adam’s wrestling coach and team and went to dinner with all the parents.
That’s a story in itself.
