I have always been fascinated by Birch trees. The small heart shaped leaves with ridges along the edge and the bark that looks like paper. This tree with its patterned bark caught my eye. Especially the stitch pattern to the right of the knot.
This photo was from my walk along the Carman's River in Shirley. Camera was the Canon 5d mkII and processed with Photomatix Tone Mapping program.
