MPH

Our town has a new tradition of meeting our winning sports teams at the edge of town with an escort of sirens wailing and lights flashing. We live on the main road into Southampton. The first time it happened was this time last year when our Girls Varsity Basketball became County Champs in the small school division. At about 10pm, we heard all the commotion and didn't know what to make of it. (We can't see the road from out house.) 
We found out the Lady Mariners were escorted from the edge of town to the high school by both the police and fire departments. We now are alerted in advance of any escort so we can park at the edge of the driveway and flash the lights and sound the horn for our local heros. 
Last night The girls played their final game before heading for the New York State Championship game. 
Sitting there, I made this photo of the dashboard.  It's a good feeling to cheer them on and cause a little ruckus in their honor.

Studebaker

Men and cars. 

I'm fascinated with automobiles, especially old and odd ones. Parades usually bring out the best of them; that's where I found this Studebaker.

Personally, I put too much miles on my vehicles to drive anything fancy. My motto has always been practical in the auto department. My 2010 Ford Focus (what else is a photographer to drive) purchased in September has over 31,000 miles on it. I had a Plymouth Neon that had 300,000 miles on it. Hard to believe Consumer Reports said it was a car to stay away from.

The Old Plymouth

I made this image at a Saint Patrick’s Day parade yesterday. I wasn’t in a creative mood yesterday, either at the parade or later when I went for a walk around Camp Edie in Sayville. It didn’t help that it was overcast and cold, a good day to walk in a parade. I just couldn’t’ t get the creative juices flowing.

Two days in a row, back to back work. This doesn’t happen often, it doesn’t given me much time to myself. It’s almost six and I have about 45 minutes before my next gig, I’ll use this time to put together my next post. This is one of the wonderful benefits to a laptop. On occasion I’ve completed jobs in the car, even burnt the CD.
I’ve been thinking lately about how secure I am at what I do. Most of my work comes from one of two places. I’m having a “putting all my eggs in one basket” anxiety. I know it’s all driven by the state of the economy, but it still works me up. In a way, it good to worry a little, it keeps you on you toes.
Today’s picture is a self-portrait from the old Oldsmobile images I made on Sunday. I was fooling around with it and made it black & white. There’s a digital advantage, black & white and color both on the safe frame.

Sunny Sunday

Today is the last day before we’re back to some sort of routine. The workweek starts off very busy for me, unusual for January. The rest of the month looks light.
I want to build an entertainment cabinet. Every winter, during the slow season, I try to harness my creative energy and do something different. I started a mechanical drawing yesterday, but I think I need to change it.
It looks beautiful today, crisp blue shy and plenty of sunshine. Maybe I can get down to the ocean again for my walk.

I made this image from a low angle to eliminate the busy background and emphasize the long lines of the hood. I also liked the headlight, which I dodged a bit to make lighter.

Nostalgic Spirit

Monday morning and I’m listening to Christmas songs as I get things in order before I leave for the first photos of the day. Saturday night’s Christmas tree lighting and parade in the village was nice. It was cold but fun.
Yesterday, it snowed. There was no accumulation, but snow and Christmas music is all it takes to change my mood. I also like to watch those old sappy Christmas shows; Miracle on 34th Street, A Christmas Carol and It’s a Wonderful Life.
Which brings me to today’s picture post. This old Chevy is used by Hildeth’s Department Store for advertisement. Being in the nostalgic spirit I made it sepia for the post.
